Double Olympic gold medallist James Cracknell is crossing the Channel this week, with a little help from his friends at SeaFrance Dover-Calais Ferries. To raise money for Sport Relief, James is travelling to Africa under his own steam and rowing the Channel will be his first challenge. SeaFrance will be sponsoring the attempt by providing transport for the rower’s support vehicles.
Although planned for 28 February 2008, the exact date and time of James Cracknell’s initial challenge will depend on weather conditions, meaning the SeaFrance team has to be on standby. Having rowed across the world’s busiest shipping lane, James plans to raise more cash by cycling through France and Spain before swimming the Straits of Gibraltar with Little Britain star David Walliams.
Bill Laidlaw, sales director of SeaFrance UK, commented, “We are proud to have been of assistance in James’ endurance challenge, which is raising money for such an excellent cause. We wish him the best of luck in his endeavour.”
