As a consequence of rising fuel costs, SeaFrance Dover-Calais Ferries this week announced the introduction of a small fuel surcharge on all new coach bookings made on or after 1 March 2008. To be reviewed quarterly, the new charge is currently set at £4.66 per coach per single journey.
Patrick Williams, General Manager – Passenger Sales, SeaFrance Dover-Calais Ferries commented: “Fuel costs have increased dramatically over the past few months and are not expected to fall in the immediate future. To date we have absorbed the price but we regret that we can no longer do so and will now impose a modest fuel surcharge to help recover these additional costs”.
Patrick continued: “The level of our surcharge is calculated closely to reflect fuel prices but will not compensate for the full impact of oil price rises. The market has seen some retrospective surcharges applied but we reject this principle. To enable complete customer confidence in the price offered at the time of booking, we will not back-date our surcharges. Further, we will only apply the surcharge per vehicle as this is a fair reflection of increased operating costs whereas a charge per passenger is not”.
Reviewed quarterly, the next review will take place at the end of March and any surcharge set at this time will apply to bookings made from 1 April to 30 June 2008. Any changes to the current level of the surcharge will be advised at the time of booking.
