SeaFrance Joins National Campaign to Protect the UK's Beaches
SeaFrance Dover - Calais Ferries has just announced its involvement in the Marine Conservation Society’s ‘Adopt-a-Beach’ project. With the help of customers and staff, SeaFrance is backing the national campaign to protect the UK’s beaches and hopes to promote environmental awareness through its own ongoing clean-up work at Kingsdown beach in Kent. An exhibition onboard the SeaFrance fleet is planned to inform its passengers about the work of the MCS.
Funded by SeaFrance itself and voluntary contributions from its customers, members of the company’s staff have volunteered to work with local schools in Kent on the beach-cleaning project. Robin Wilkins, Managing Director of SeaFrance Limited said: "We’re delighted to be working with the Marine Conservation Society on this project. Rather than just contributing financially, we wanted to encourage our own staff and Kent locals to make a tangible difference to our local environment. By also involving our customers through suggesting an environmental contribution at the time of booking, we’re delighted that the project enables the whole SeaFrance community to work together for a better future for the UK’s beaches".
SeaFrance’s support of the ‘Adopt-a-Beach’ project is part of the company’s overall environmental strategy to reduce its impact as much as possible. Further policies including operating at energy saving speeds during off peak times have already reduced fuel consumption, with SeaFrance committed to an ongoing programme of environmental support.
Those interested in supporting the campaign can call SeaFrance on 0871 702 1802, to donate or offer assistance, or visit www.seafrance.com. An exhibition onboard SeaFrance ships is also planned to highlight the work of the MCS and educate passengers on actions everyone can take to reduce marine litter on our beaches.
