Travelling with Children

SeaFrance is the ideal way to travel to the Continent with your family.  There’s plenty of space onboard for all the children to unwind, plus you’ll have plenty of room in your car to bring all those little extras you need.

We’ve got a great selection of restaurants and cafés on board with their own special children’s menu.  You can also heat up bottles and baby food in the microwaves located in Le Relais restaurant.

Plus, we have baby changing facilities in all of our vessels.  And, if you want to relax while the kids amuse themselves, make the most of our dedicated children’s facilities:

Playzone (for 2 - 8 year olds)

On board every SeaFrance vessel we have a dedicated enclosed children’s play area with soft cushions, where they can run and jump around safely, or curl up in front of a video with their teddy bear…

The Playzone is situated next to Le Relais restaurant, so you can put your feet up and enjoying a refreshing meal while the children use up all that excess energy!

And for the older children…

Enjoy the thrill of snowboarding mountain slopes, driving rally cars or motorcross in our games arcades, all equipped with the latest arcade machines.  Your teenagers will hardly notice the time passing!

Top tips for travelling with children:
  • Make sure you have plenty of fluids available, particularly if you are travelling in the summer.

  • Beakers or bottles with a spout help avoid spillages. Plan regular breaks for toddlers to run around and for toilet stops.

  • Many motorway services in France have small fenced areas for children to play in.

  • Don’t forget, babies need passports as well as children!  For information on obtaining a passport for all the family, including advice on acceptable photographs, please click here.

  • Children may take a while to get used to the taste of foreign food, so take some favourite staples from home as a back-up.

  • Avoid car sickness by encouraging children to look out of car windows, and keep the car well ventilated.

  • Make sure you have a supply of plastic bags for rubbish and any accidents!

  • It may be useful to take a plug-in nightlight to help relax children when they are sleeping in unfamiliar surroundings.

  • Don’t forget to pack music CDs to play on the journey.

  • Pillows and a warm fleece help to make the car more comfortable.

  • If you are travelling during the day, do make provision for some kind of sun shade in the car.

  • Keep a first aid kit in the car and remember to include any special children’s medication you may require.

  • Make sure you have planned your journey carefully to avoid unwanted delays.
